Without proper guidiance, the process of applying to college an writing the best college admissions essays can be daunting. There’s a lot of information on the web – only some of which is helpful.
The resources of theessayguy.com are time-tested, proven-to-be-successful techniques and insights into the process. Many students write essays the hit the bullseye of the dartboard at which they were aiming. The “problem” is that often isn’t the right dartboard.
What is the right dartboard? I encourage you to check out this blog post.
No. Of course not. There is far more to admissions decisions than only the essay.
What I guarantee is that, with my coaching, the essay(s) they submit will do everything they need to do to have the greatest positive impact possible. The application essays will positiviely differentiate them from other applicants. The admissions essays will give admissions officers reasons to say, “yes!”

The causes of stress both for you and your child are 1) feeling like their entire lives depend on the outcome of these applications, 2) feeling like they don’t know what to do or you don’t know how to guide them, and 3) that they won’t be able to write a “perfect” essay.
I’m more than a regular essay writing coach. I’m also a Board-Certified Results/Life/Business Coach. Combined with extensive masters level coursework in psychology, I’m able to address the underlying causes of the stress by
1) explain that, while important, nothing is really riding on the outcome of these essays. A recent client transferred from Santa Monica Community College. She was rejected from the University of Miami on day and admitted to Cornell the next. She earned the same degree as students who were there for all four years. There’s no asterisk on the degree. I wrote about her briefly in the Essays That Work” mentioned in the previous answer.
2) Ensuring that they know exactly what to do, exactly for what dartboard we’re aiming, and exactly the tools and techniques that have yielded 99%+ of my clients enormous success.
3) The essay only needs to be “perfect” right before it’s submitted. Before then, trial-and-error is encouraged. Multiple drafts are encouraged.
If you’re curious, take a look at these posts in the order below. They depict a variety of drafts for the same person (“high school” me).
Draft #3: “Maybe” a Final Draft
The “Less stress, more success” is the literal and figurative trademark of The Essay Guy and my approach to making this process either 1) fun, or 2) the least ‘bad’ possible.
It’s always difficult to pinpoint in advance – how many schools, how many supplements, etc. For the Common App essay (or similar), I usually say no more than 2.5 hours with me (spead over three sessions. From there, supplements can run it up to eight to 10 hours. If someone is applying to 20 schools plus the UCs, it can go higher. Check out the SERVICES that I offer.
I generally recommend that people start with the INTRO COURSE, which is currently FREE. That is both a good introduction to the first steps and a way to lessen the time needed to get to a solid draft. If the student has already done that, then consider the SERVICES that I can offer and/or read the BLOG.
